Why scientists should have a greater voice on security issues

  • If the Bush admin had come out after 9/11 and said we are mandating reinforced cockpit doors and expect passengers to help stop hijackings. That plus beefing up bomb sniffing dogs and better metal detectors at airports would be good enough.

    But then hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars would not have flowed into corrupt business and political pockets.

Is it possible that software is not like anything else, that it is meant to be discarded: that the whole point is to always see it as a soap bubble?
