Slashdot Turns 15, What Are You Doing Later? 247
October marks Slashdot's 15th birthday. That's right, we're almost old enough to drive the PT Cruiser. Throughout October we'll be running a number of meta news articles about our history, plans for the future, and special interviews. We're also giving away T-shirts to people willing to organize and host the biggest Slashdot parties. It's easy to get started. Just visit the Slashdot Anniversary Party Web Page. Sign up to go to a party, or if there aren't any in your area, create your own during the official party period of Oct. 20-30. The details of your local parties are up to you. Each has a corresponding discussion so you can work it out amongst yourselves. Wherever several Slashdot readers gather, we'll attempt to mail shirts until we run out. Geeknet will host parties in San Francisco, New York, and Ann Arbor.
To be eligible for schwag, you need to schedule your party by September 27, or sign up to attend one by September 28. This will give us time to figure out where to send the shirts, and time to send them. Help us celebrate 15 years of news for nerds and stuff that matters.

I started reading late '97 but wasn't convinced to actually sign up until sometime in '99. My guess is that you signed up early 2000. There were a lot of people who lurked and posted anon back then rather than sign up, so slightly higher IDs aren't really an indication that people missed the early days.

10% Small 50% Medium, 30% Large, 10% XLarge
and not only "large" (or was it XL?) like the 10th anniversary...
Cheers and happy birthday! :D

They're not necessarily correlated. I created an account a while back (over a decade ago) under my college email address. I'd consider that to be when I "joined" Slashdot. After I graduated I lost access to that email address. Since I didn't remember the password for that old account, and didn't have access to the email address to which the password change email would be sent, that account is dead and so I created this new one. In hindsight, I should have changed the email on that old account to use an address to which I would retain access even after graduation, but hindsight is 20/20 and my foresight is significantly worse.
